TIPS AND GUIDELINES FOR INSTALLING RADIO GRILLE CLOTH

Now that you’ve purchased some high-quality radio grille cloth, it’s important to install it properly. Here are some basic tips to follow:

1.

2.

3.

4.

The cloth is made from polyester. Set the iron temperature to less than 300 degrees, or it will melt. Otherwise cover it with a damp cloth before ironing.

Do not staple the grille cloth. This can cause runs in the fabric that are not repairable.

Liquid glue will permanently stain the fabric, so only use it on non-visible surfaces.

Spray glue dries immediately, so use caution when using it. The cloth cannot be repositioned once attached.

TO INSTALL THE GRILLE CLOTH:

Cut out a piece of cardboard or matting material from a frame shop to use as a mounting frame, if the radio does not have it.

If there is excess cloth, you can wrap it around the frame edge; this may make it easier to mount and secure.

Use push pins or clamps to set the cloth properly and straight. This allows you to make sure the cloth is mounted correctly.

Pull cloth taut, apply glue around the perimeter and let dry before removing pins. Almost any glue can be used.

There are many other ways to install grille cloth. Google "radio grille cloth installation" for additional methods.

For those needing to put holes in the cloth for speakers, use a soldering iron which will burn a hole through and seal the hole's perimeter.
